Steps of the Coaching Process

The Leader as a Coach: Secrets to Tapping Potential in Others

As a leader, on of your most important responsibilities is to identify and cultivate the potential of the individual members with whom you come in contact. Take the following steps for a rewarding coaching experience for you and your members.

1) Focus on POTENTIAL:
How could the individual's inherent talent/skills develop over time?

2) Focus on GOALS:
What are the individual's personal and professional goals?

3) Look for the LEADER:
Do you see qualities/skills exhibited that the organization needs from its leaders (ex: positive; credible; good judgement; listening skills; open)?

4) Provide OPPORTUNITIES:
What level of confidence, comfort and perceived value exists to take on small, medium or large tasks?

5) Provide SUPPORT:
What information, suggestions, training, feedback or encouragement can you provide to ensure success?

Quote:
There is no more noble occupation in the world
than to assist another human being -
to help someone succeed.
